Wind Power is Catching on Around the World

27 Jun

Meteorologically as land heats up during the day a breeze occurs inland off the nearby waters, and at night as the land cools the wind flows back out to sea. This basic phenomenon has been occurring for thousands of years all over the world. The timing of these diurnal occurrences can now be predicted along with anemometers that will provide quantitative results for wind speeds at various levels. Meteorologists have wind profilers, infrared and visible satellite photos, and in the United States cooperative observers all of which record wind data. This information has been accumulating for decades at the National Climatic Data Center in the United States. The information at the NCDC is there for anyone who would be interested in establishing a wind farm or a single unit to power a State Government building for example. In the United States one of the fastest growing areas for Wind Power is the State of Texas. Wind farms are proving their worth in this state, which sees the winds flowing off the Gulf of Mexico hundreds of miles inland each and every day.

The World Meteorological Organization has members all over the world with similar depositories. The information is available, and has been for a very long time, for locating the best positions for wind turbines to harness the available energy. This is an exciting time since meteorology is rapidly growing as new technology is continually developed. The availability of meteorological information on the internet in real time is becoming world wide. There could be a tremendous need for Weather Specialists all over the world in the near future that will provide many career opportunities in countries world wide. There should be different types of position descriptions developed right now to accommodate these new opportunities without having the calculus, physics, or in depth requirements now necessary for government Meteorologists. Television Meteorologists rarely have any training at all.
